About Apollo-Detroit,
Meet Apollo. He's a big personality in a very energetic package. He's been living with two Border Collies and gets along well with them, although he can be dog-selective, particularly in unfamiliar settings. He's wary of men and will bark, so he'll need slow introductions and someone willing to build his trust. He does well with dog-savvy cats, but supervision and caution are recommended.
Apollo is smart, busy, vocal, and definitely keeps you on your toes! He can be a bit of a chewer (shoes and socks are favorites), has recently discovered counter-surfing, and will occasionally test boundaries to see what he can get away with. He'll benefit from structure, consistency, and plenty of appropriate outlets for his energy once he's medically cleared for more activity. He's also prone to becoming very attached to his person, so transitioning to a new home may take some patience. Apollo has so much personality and potential, and the right person will appreciate all the wonderful things that make him Apollo. His owner loves him but is not in a position to keep him long-term. Apollo needs a home that understands his needs and will give him the time, guidance, and love he deserves.
Apollo is currently on restricted activity while his leg heals. His splint must stay clean and dry and is changed under sedation every 7โ10 days, or sooner if needed. He's been great about leaving it alone, but any sudden interest in the splint may indicate something is bothering him underneath. He's taking medication every 8 hours to help keep him calm along with pain medds every 24 hours His last x-rays were good. If healing looks good, the pin can be removed, followed by another 2โ4 weeks in the splint and then a gradual return to normal activity over approximately 4โ6 weeks. His current vet does not have to be the doctor who removes the pin, and there are no known travel restrictions at this time.
So, who's ready for a little extra adventure in their life? Apollo isn't going to be the easiest dog you've ever owned, and he's not pretending to be. He's a work in progress with a whole lot of love, personality, intelligence, and energy to give. He needs someone who can appreciate his quirks, give him clear boundaries, earn his trust, and help him become the best version of himself. In return, you'll have a loyal, entertaining companion who will keep life interesting and make you laugh. He needs someone who can see the dog he will become. Could that be you?
